Synopsis:

How is a career in cinema built beyond what audiences see on screen? In this masterclass, Marina Palii will share the experiences that have shaped her professional journey, from her early beginnings to collaborations in Romanian and international cinema.

Drawing on her own career, Marina will explore the differences between auteur cinema and other types of film production, the particularities of working with professional and non-professional actors, and the challenges of directing and performing alongside child actors. She will also discuss her experience working in foreign-language productions and how different cultural and artistic contexts influence the creative process.

The session aims to foster an open conversation about acting, the creative process, and the experiences that shape a career in cinema. It is designed for actors, students, and anyone passionate about film who wishes to gain a deeper understanding of the artistic process and the realities behind building a career in the film industry.

Marina Palii is an actress of Moldovan origin. She made her feature film debut in Malmkrog (dir. Cristi Puiu), which premiered in the Encounters competition at the 2020 Berlin International Film Festival, earning her a Gopo Award nomination for Best Leading Actress. She was selected for Sarajevo Talents (2020) and Berlinale Talents (2021), while the films she has appeared in have screened at major festivals including Berlinale, Venice, Toronto and Tallinn. In 2026, she won the Gopo Award for Best Supporting Actress, received the Alex. Leo Șerban Special Mention at the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF), and is a member of the European Film Academy.
