The year 1954 confronts Niculae Moromete with difficult choices. His tumultuous love affair with Vera, a married woman, comes to a head when Niculae can't bear the thought of sharing her and Vera can't make up her mind. Shaken in his own political convictions, Niculae is also faced with a lack of trust in the literary guild, increasingly influenced by the ideological shifts of the time. In the midst of this chaos, a young poetess, Aurora, insinuates herself into his life and ingenuously offers him a way out of his professional and personal dilemmas, inspiring him to publish the novel “Moromeții”.
Stere Gulea debuts as a director four years later with the film Under the Seal of Secret. After a prolific period, in which he directed 3 films, Iarba verde de acasa (1977), Castelul din Carpati (1981) and Ochi de urs (1983), the director screened a year later the film of the same name based on the novel by Marin Preda , Murometi. It continues after 1990 with four other successful Romanian films: Vulpe – vânator (1993), Stare de fapt (1995), Weekend cu mama (2009) and Sunt o bă bă communista (2013).
